MP Geraint Davies: the government is cutting down trees to improve the UK’s 5G signal

Geraint Davies, MP for Swansea West, accused the government of ‘ridiculous’ environmental negligence after it was revealed that trees are being cut down to improve the signal of the UK’s 5G network. Mr. Davies claimed that cutting down thousands of trees was incompatible with the UK’s environmental targets.

“The concerns were that 5G can’t penetrate through trees. And as a result, we’re looking at the destruction of thousands of trees, and this destruction already started around Swindon. And how can we possibly be serious about our ambitions for zero carbon, if we are destroying the trees and also have this huge carbon footprint? It just doesn’t add up, and it’s clearly environmentally ridiculous.”
