They had people dressed up in swimming costumes with fig leaves tied onto their swimming suits. They were in a cage next to an ape cage. And this was a video on YouTube the last I looked, and the people were having a lot of fun, pretending like they were picking bugs out of the one guy’s hair. They were laughing and a spokeswoman for the zoo said this, ‘Seeing people in a different environment, among other animals…teaches members of the public that the human is just another primate‘ [Polly Wills].
Well, think about that. You have thousands of people, adults and children going by, looking at this, laughing, and the message they are supposed to get is ‘Humans are just another primate.’ Well, we keep primates in zoos all their lives. So, it’s okay to keep a human in the zoo? In a zoo cage? That actually happened.
Ota Benga was a pygmy African from the Belgian Congo. His first wife was brutally murdered. His second wife died of a snake bite. His tribe was captured by another African tribe. He was sold into slavery. Eventually he was sold to an American explorer, an evolutionist, who brought him to the United States, showed him off at the St Louis world’s fair, and eventually sold him to the Bronx Zoo in New York City where he was placed in the orangutan cage to live 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
African-American pastors immediately protested. After a few weeks, they let him out during the day but he had to sleep with the apes at night. Finally, after a few months, they let him out. He was taken into the care of some Christians. He was working in a factory. He was led to faith in Christ. He was working in a factory in Virginia where it was all too much for him. And he committed suicide.
But what’s wrong with that, if humans are just another primate? They’re not just another primate. They are made in the image of God. If Adam is in your ancestry, that means that God is of the authority and He makes the rules and it’s not a matter of your opinion or my opinion or a majority vote in the culture or a majority vote in Congress or a majority vote in the Supreme Court.
God determines the rules. And He created gender – male and female. And He created marriage: one man and one woman for life. And He made His rules, His laws for us for our good and for our flourishing and when we go against His created order and against His laws, sooner or later we suffer negative consequences.
But you see, if an ape is in your ancestry then this book is not true. It’s just written by pre-scientific primitive superstitious Jews and Christians. So, you can make your own rules. What’s good for you is good for you. What’s good for me, is good for me which is a great idea unless you are in the womb and the doctor convinces your mother to abort you or unless you live in a country like Nazi Germany or Communist Soviet Union or Communist China or North Korea where they exterminate people that they don’t agree with or they don’t like.”
