In a speech on the Senate floor on December of last year, U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, called “on his Republican colleagues to work with Democrats on comprehensive immigration reform that will help secure America’s border” and address America shortage of workers. Clearly, they trumpet the same narrative of shortage in the labour force.
In his speech, he said that although he understand the overwhelming numbers that America is facing at the border, America is a nation of immigrants, like his mother was and that thus, he is a person who believes in immigration. He also cannot believe why immigration is a hot, controversial topic in America. Maybe he should study the Kalergi plan, or he should look at the fact that illegal immigration is a crisis for his America, beside being an open door for drugs, criminals, and potential terrorists. Durbin should be looking at how illegal immigration is affecting American’s economy, while adding costs to its judicial, healthcare, and education systems. “Illegal immigration costs taxpayers $45 billion a year in health care, education, and incarceration expenses” – Ric Keller.
Durbin noted that there are sectors in America which are suffering due to shortage of workers. He said that for example, in his state of Illinois, in Chicago, rural areas downstate are holding their breath hoping they can keep their hospitals open because they don’t have enough medical personnel. So, the only solution he sees is to give a chance to other people all around the world who have medical credentials. He should visit little Malta then and have a tour in elderly homes and hospitals [among other ample industries and sectors like public transport, restaurants, hotels, shops, deliveries, and a long list] for some ideas.
Since he noted that the U.S. military is experiencing low levels of recruitment, becoming a serious threat to America’s national security, Durbin suggested recruiting illegal immigrants into the military in exchange for citizenship. Maybe he should liaise with Dr Muscat and ask him for more information about the selling of passports in exchange for the Maltese citizenship which the Labour government under the helm of Dr Muscat has implemented, selling the soul of the Maltese nation.
Thousands of cities in America are crying out for relief from the burden of illegal immigration. And yet, politicians like Senator Durbin come up with such solutions, because they know that stopping illegal immigration would mean that wages would have to rise to such a level that Americans would get the rightful opportunities get the job.
