How you get sacked with benefits in a country where some animals are more equal than others!

The Times of Malta reported that, according to details obtained via a freedom of information request, former transport minister “Aaron Farrugia, netted a €33,000 pay-out after getting sacked from cabinet during last month’s reshuffle”. That is a good ‘terminal benefit’, isn’t it?

TOM added that such “benefits are paid to all cabinet members who either fail to get re-elected, resign, get sacked, or are not re-nominated to a cabinet post after an election.”

Rosianne Cutajar “was paid €27,000 after being forced out of government in 2021.”

When former Gozo minister Justyne Caruana was ditched out of the cabinet by Prime Minister Robert Abela, she also netted a €28,000 pay-out.

After resigning, “former prime minister Joseph Muscat was given a €120,000 golden handshake.”

Everything is ‘sustainable’ when it comes to them. Endless amounts of money are always available when it comes to them. When it comes to you, your beloved politicians will tell you to settle for the crumbs while they enjoy eating the cake!

Is being sacked with benefits the new norm for all honest, state employees who are unfairly sacked from their employment?

Is being sacked with benefits the new norm for all honest, state employees who refused their COVID-19 vaccines and were fired because of such a decision?

Is being sacked with benefits the new norm for all honest, state employees who are fired for no reason at all simply because they are under probation, which means, that the law is not on their side?

And the long list continues. But what applies to you, dear honest citizen, does not apply to the two legs in suit in the city assemblage!

What sort of job offers this kind of benefit for being good for nothing and getting the sack? As far as I know, the best John Citizen gets after being fired is 10 minutes to gather their personal things from their desk. When I was sacked from Caritas because I refused the COVID-19 vaccine, I was not even allowed to go back to get my personal belongings. I was asked to collect them from the security guard. When I was sacked from MCAST out of spite from god-complexes, I was left stranded without a job during COVID.

This new sacked with benefits saga in the political arena reminds me for the umpteenth time of a proclamation made by the pigs, the ruling farm animals, in George Orwell’s novel ‘Animal Farm.’ The pigs proclaimed that ‘all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.’ This sentence is a comment on the hypocrisy of governments that proclaim the absolute equality of their citizens but give power and privileges to a small elite.

And throughout, the pigs keep their noses firmly in the trough, no matter what happens to them!
