Dr Marita Pace Dimech, who was the lawyer of Bernice Cassar, the woman and mother of two who was shot dead in Corradino by her husband, has put up this post on her Facebook profile page which reads:
“Din hija s-sitwazzjoni prekarja li vittma ta’ vjolenza domestika trid tħabbat wiċċha magħha ta’ kuljum. Madwar għoxrin minuta fuq il-linja biex FORSI xi ħadd mit-Taqsima tal-Vjolenza Domestika (Prosecution Office biex tingħata data tal-kawża biex tkun tista’ tagħmel rikors għal Ordni ta’ Protezzjoni) ikellem lill-vittma sabiex tingħata l-informazzjoni li hi għandha bżonn. Malli jirnexxilha tkellem lil xi ħadd, jibgħatuk mingħand Pilatu għal għand Kajfa għas-semplici raġuni li jgħidulha ‘Mal-Operator qbadt,’ jew ‘Erġa’ pprova ħin ieħor.’
L-erġa’ pprova ħin ieħor jaf ikun tard wisq!'”
In English, it translates to:
“This is the precarious situation that a victim of domestic violence has to face every day. About twenty minutes on the line so that PERHAPS someone from the Domestic Violence Unit (Prosecution Office to provide data on the case so that you can apply for a Protection Order) speaks to the victim in order to be given the information that she needs. As soon as she manages to talk to someone, they send you from Pilate to Caiaphas for the simple reason that they say ‘You are speaking with the Operator,’ or ‘Try again another time.’
The ‘try again another time’ might be too late!'”
