The recall of a batch of oregano from the shelves due to toxic substances

The Department of Information has published the announcement concerning the dry oregano product of the ”Country” brand, lot ending with the number -48/1105.

The announcement said that according to the Food Safety Act and the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EC) No. 178 of 2002, the Directorate for Environmental Health within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that, following information received through the Rapid Food and Feed System, this product should not be consumed because it has been found to contain elevated levels of Pyrrolizidine alkaloids. The pyrrolizidine alkaloids are a group of natural toxins synthesized as secondary metabolites from different plant species. Many of these substances are known to be toxic to humans and animals as a result of their presence in the food chain (source: EFSA Journal Vol 15, Issue 7 – Jul 2017).

Now here we are talking about herbs, which are usually healthy for consumption. For example, in this case, oregano contains chemicals that might help reduce coughing. It might also help with digestion, fighting against some bacteria and viruses, wound healing, parasite infections, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. But here we go. This lot happened to be contaminated with toxic substances.

So first they put food on the market for consumption, and then they announce a recall due to toxic substances.

Why aren’t products tested properly before they are put on the market for consumption?

When will they ban pesticides, GMOs, and any other rubbish that tarnishes people’s health?

Can’t you see that we are being poisoned, even by food that is deemed healthy?

And then we wonder why we get sick. It is truly beyond our understanding how humanity is being poisoned from all angles and it is still surviving. How much can humanity take?
