The beautiful and peaceful Malta we had: Hompesch Gate

The below photo is from a 1956 newspaper. It shows Hompesch Gate on the way to Zabbar. Notice the beautiful fields and space around. All of this is gone today, sixty-seven years later. We must understand that Malta has been stripped of its nature and rural soul, thanks to what they call progress but which truly is regress. When you kill a country’s soul you kill a nation’s soul. For those who think that they have made Malta more beautiful by ‘adorning’ us with buildings and so forth, they are badly mistaken. The only thing that they have adorned is their wallet. Nature and greenery is always more beautiful than anything that the human race can come up with. Many Maltese crave nature and open spaces where they can relax without still feeling like sardines in a tin.
