According to the media portal the Deutschlandfunk, the World Health Organization has been urged by scientists to declare the climate and natural disaster crises a public health emergency.
A call to action was simultaneously published in more than 200 journals before the upcoming World Health Assembly in the spring of next year. It claims that human health is impacted by both the climate crisis and biodiversity loss, and that they cannot be seen in isolation. An additional factor in the spread of infectious diseases is climate change. Drinking water sources are being harmed by pollution, and it is becoming more difficult to feed people healthily due to declining biodiversity.
The WHO’s highest alert level is when it declares a public health emergency. After that, information sharing among all member states is necessary to control the issue. The most recent instance of this was during the COVID-19 pandemic.
