Life teaches us that it is always the one with the dirty hands who points fingers. And this is what Mark Camilleri is doing – he points fingers because he also has dirty hands.
He is a hypocrite and he reminds me of our politicians who cut down trees but then mount the stump so to preach about conservatism while urging us to be environmentally conscious. Hypocrites are dangerous and are not to be trusted. In psychology we learn that hypocrisy and narcissism go together. When someone is a hypocrite one is also a narcissist and when one is a narcissist one is also a hypocrite and a sly fox.
Since self-serving is a narcissist’s very nature they are somewhat repulsed by concepts like truth integrity and dependability. Since substance means nothing to narcissists they are only concerned with appearance. As a result when virtues like truth honesty and integrity don’t support the image they must be sacrificed which makes narcissists by nature hypocrites.
Hypocrisy is defined by the Free Dictionary as “The practice of professing beliefs feelings or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness. The practice of professing standards beliefs etc. contrary to one’s real character or actual behaviour especially the pretence of virtue and piety; the condition of a person pretending to be something he is not especially in the area of morals or religion; a false presentation of belief or feeling. Insincerity by virtue of pretending to have qualities or beliefs that you do not really have.”
Mark Camilleri like a hypocritical narcissist carries the fire in one hand and water in the other. In other words he is dishonest double-dealing deceitful and has a double-edged tongue.The phrase implies that a person is ready to act in utterly opposite ways to further his goals. However narcissists are conceited rather than stupid. This is what Mark is doing: juggling between political parties and working for and possibly joining the coalition(s). Therefore Mark will commit any act of treachery to achieve his goals.
Narcissistic hypocrites in particular may tell themselves that something is acceptable for them to do but not for others. They have persuaded themselves that they are unique in this situation and that the rules that apply to everyone else do not apply to them.
One of the hallmarks of narcissistic hypocrisy is the conviction that others must follow the rules obey the laws…everyone except them.
This describes Mark Camilleri perfectly. Mark Camilleri broke the law which is a crime and a scandal on its own and he thinks that he is above the law. It is dangerous. But then he expects others to obey the law.
Narcissists find themselves rationalizing and justifying the actions and behaviours they undertake even if it simply comes down to narcissism’s “I am special” component. When they do this it is inevitable that at some point they are going to have the hypocritical way out. Mark Camilleri justifies his actions as the fact that the Labour government has done him an injustice and so forth. Even if this was true mature people use wise ways to get up stronger after receiving the blow without destroying others. We all reap what we sow.
When you want to fight corruption you first must make sure that you are not corrupt yourself. Secondly you must make sure that you do not have any self-interest like the revenge spree that Camilleri is on because “when self-interest supersedes public service society collapses under the weight of corruption” (Ken Poirot). Thirdly there must not be any nefarious agenda behind your action. Fourthly you do not use hatred and spite but wisdom assertiveness and decisiveness while using harsh words of judgment towards those doing the corruption and oppression. Lastly you do not go above the law but you find ways and means to go seek legal advice and get to your goals (as long as they are genuine) within a frame of morality. Mark Camilleri is dangerous and these chats will one day come back to haunt him.

You cannot win with him as he is deeply invested in his narcissism and hypocrisy his mind games his entitlements. He reminds me of how the pigs in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” corrupted Animalism and reduced all the seven commandments to one “All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others” or we can say “All foxes are equal but a sly fox and the crookedandcronycult.com are more equal than others.”
