In just a matter of a few days after the first Mpox case for 2024 was announced by Malta’s local media, we get the second bombardment: the detection of the second Mpox case, with a difference. It is more severe than the first.

While the first Mpox local case for 2024 has been identified as clade II, this second case is that of clade I, which makes it more severe.

According to the Health Ministry, “this second case involved a Maltese resident who was exposed to the disease through sexual activity in Malta.” I think this is one of the weirdest sentences that I have ever encountered on an article. It also lacks detail, for a change – was it a diversity of pride individual who had sex with another diversity of pride individual in Malta? Can we also know the vaccination status, please so we can start coming up with some valuable and reliable data?
But, this weird sentence is also moving the masses to the same direction: that this case was not imported and that it rose locally out of a local sexual encounter. There are two conclusions reaches. The first, that we the problem is not of the African invaders. The second, that no one locally is safe. And so, compulsory vaccination is slowly slowly, but surely, crawling onto your doorstep.
“The individual is currently clinically stable and does not require hospital admission. The patient has been isolated and contact tracing efforts are underway to prevent further transmission. Further testing is being carried out to identify the specific clade of the mpox virus of this case,” the ministry said on Tuesday.
Stay home. Quarantine. Contact tracing. Keep the distance. Sound familiar?
