There is a silent poverty, unseen and unheard, by those who put their heads in the sand

To the link of the article “Our furry friends: Feeding pets of people unable to cope with basic necessities” MSPCA’s post reads:

“The MSPCA has noticed a rise in pet surrenders, particularly from low-income families struggling to support themselves and their pets. Many of these pets arrive in poor health, as their owners face significant financial hardships. Often, pet owners prioritize feeding their animals, even if it means compromising their own nutrition, resulting in malnutrition. In response to this growing concern, the MSPCA has partnered with M&Z , sponsoring 80 animals , for the first three months to provide support. Together, we have launched an initiative to supply pet food to individuals who rely on the Foodbank Lifeline, ensuring that pets in vulnerable, VETTED households receive proper nutrition, easing the burden on their owners and reducing the number of surrendered pets. Moving forward , the MSPCA are looking for additional sponsors to carry this initiative forward.”

The article talks about the fact that “MSPCA joined forces with a petfood supplier to help feed pets of people who are supported by the Foodbank Lifeline.”

“Foodbank Lifeline manager Barbara Caruana told Times of Malta that the foundation feeds between 250 and 300 families a week.”

Caruana added that they saw “an increase in low-income families reaching out after being unable to keep up with sudden expenses such as a fault in their appliance or vehicle. Some elderly people are also struggling to make ends meet with their pensions.

Clients are referred to the Foodbank Lifeline through social workers for a six-week period, which is reviewed and renewed if necessary. However, Caruana said that “it’s becoming increasingly difficult to stop at one or two renewals, as some families require support on a longer term”. This means that more people are needing such help for a longer time.

Life in Malta is becoming very expensive for locals and yes, there is a silent poverty, unseen and unheard, by those who prefer to put their heads in the sand. This includes Robert Abela of course, and his elitist government for elitism and the elite. Abela refuses to admit that not only there is poverty in Malta, but that it is increasing by the minute as this Great Economic Reset continues to unfold and tightens the grip on households.

Will we go through worse times? Will we see poverty increasing?
