Telegram Stops Being Anonymous After Durov’s Arrest

After the arrest of Telegram’s founder, Pavel Durov, Telegram changed its approach to moderating private chats. The frequently asked questions (FAQ) part of Telegram’s website has been modified. Before, it said that the Telegram management “all chats and group chats are private” and that “does not process requests related to them.” This means that there is no longer the FAQ response which states that requests for moderation on private chats will not be processed.

Telegram spokesperson Remi Vaughn responded as follows:

“The FAQ change only made it clearer how to report content on Telegram, including via DSA. The removed language was never related to content reporting.”

There will now be a “Complain” button in private groups so that infractions can be reported to the messenger management.

Considering that all of these apps are monitored, I have never once suggested that you trust any of them. A monitoring mechanism has always been in place.

What has changed is that now we are being informed, that’s all.
