Alabama Residents question Haitian Immigrants in a City Council

A Sylacauga City Council meeting was adjourned after just 20 minutes on Thursday 5th September due to inquiries from multiple locals regarding the recent influx of Haitians into the region.

After a number of residents questioned how the city knew workers arriving were legal immigrants, who had made this determination, and what impact they were having on housing and crime, Council President Tiffany Nix adjourned the meeting.

Concerned Citizen: “Do we know where the individuals we’re discussing are coming from? Because you’re treating them like lawful U.S. citizens, which they are not.”

Councilwoman: “We have no reason to treat people differently because of how they look.”
