A conversation with God: Why does the way of the wicked prosper, my Lord?

In the mist, I see evil increasing in the world and even in the Church. People are walking away from God on a daily basis. On a daily basis, I see things that are so evil, so foul, so ugly, so miserable, so immoral, and then I ask “Where are you God? Where are you while all of this is happening?”

God, you are the holy of holies. You are the light of the world. You are the perfect God. You are the sovereign God. You are the Prince of Peace. How come you are allowing all this to happen? How come you are allowing all this evil to infiltrate and to expand so rapidly in the Church and the world?

I am speechless. I am dumbfounded. I just cannot fathom. I am your humble servant, Father, and yet, forgive me if I ask: how come You, the good God are allowing all this evil to happen, and yet You have the authority to stop it all, before I blink my eye?

God, where are you? Why aren’t you doing something about this evil?

Jeremiah the prophet had this dilemma and this problem. Jeremiah Chapter 12, known as Jeremiah’s complaint, begins his dialect with God by saying “Righteous are you”. In other words, he is telling God that what he is going to say reflects his seeking of forgiveness and for God not to be angry with him. Jeremiah is saying to God that he is not questioning His authority but he is just questioning how come He is not doing something about the evil that is flourishing, expanding so rapidly, on a global level.

“You are always righteous, Lord, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease? You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit. You are always on their lips but far from their hearts. Yet you know me, Lord; you see me and test my thoughts about you. Drag them off like sheep to be butchered! Set them apart for the day of slaughter! How long will the land lie parched and the grass in every field be withered? Because those who live in it are wicked, the animals and birds have perished. Moreover, the people are saying, ‘He will not see what happens to us’.”

This translates to, allow me God, to say something, addressing you in an awesome way because what I am going to say I am even afraid to say it to you. So please, have mercy on me God, and allow me to address you this way. When I plead with you, let me talk please. Don’t get angry at me. Let me talk with you about your judgements, because I know You are perfect. You are justice. Don’t get angry Lord. I’m just questioning why does the way of the wicked prosper. I’m questioning out of good intention. How come those who do evil are laughing and those who are trying to do good are crying every day, struggling every day? Why? You have created those evil doers. They are your creation. You molded them. So, you can stop them. You can change them. I’m not saying ‘kill them.’ I’m saying ‘touch their hearts.’ Let them realize where the truth is, where goodness is. Change them, Lord. “They grow and bear fruits.” Didn’t pandemics throughout history bear fruit?

You are always on their lips but far from their hearts.” – My goodness! What an awesome line from Prophet Jeremiah. This means that their mind is not with the Lord. They do everything against the Lord’s wish and the Lord’s will. Their way of thinking is against the Lord’s. So, why are they prospering Lord?

Beloved brothers and sisters, there is no creation that could ever fathom the infinite wisdom of Jesus Christ, God revealed in the flesh. No one can fathom it. But believe you me, the Lord is laughing at everyone who is thinking they can stop what God has begun. He is laughing at them.

Psalms 37:13: “The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright.”

God’s answer to Prophet Jeremiah’s complaint was:

“If you have raced with men on foot/and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses?
If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan? Your relatives, members of your own family— even they have betrayed you; they have raised a loud cry against you.
Do not trust them,/though they speak well of you. I will forsake my house, abandon my inheritance;
I will give the one I love into the hands of her enemies. My inheritance has become to me like a lion in the forest. She roars at me; therefore I hate her.
Has not my inheritance become to me like a speckled bird of prey that other birds of prey surround and attack? Go and gather all the wild beasts; bring them to devour. Many shepherds will ruin my vineyard and trample down my field; they will turn my pleasant field into a desolate wasteland. It will be made a wasteland, parched and desolate before me; the whole land will be laid waste because there is no one who cares. Over all the barren heights in the desert destroyers will swarm, for the sword of the Lord will devour from one end of the land to the other; no one will be safe. They will sow wheat but reap thorns; they will wear themselves out but gain nothing. They will bear the shame of their harvest because of the Lord’s fierce anger.”

In a nutshell, what God is saying here is that He will punish even his own people, as well as the nations who are the instruments of his wrath. Yet God’s compassion is not exhausted. He will plant again those whom he has uprooted, even the foreign nations who turn to him in faith. In short, God’s answer to Jeremiah is this: Trust me!

In Isaiah 13:11 we also read: “I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.”

We need to pray for the evil people because they are absolutely blind. Spiritually, they are blind. They are also ruthless. The elite has existed since biblical times. Evil doing, ruthless periods, have occurred in history, from time to time – all caused by evil people. We are either going to put an end to all this in this unprecedented time in human history in the biggest crime against humanity, or we might as well not do anything at all. We cannot just sit and watch.

Do you think it’s God’s fault? Who allowed the world to get to this state? The world is in the dismal state it is in because we have pushed God out of the way and walked along the ways of the Elite. We have made governments and money our gods. Morality is missing. God is missing. Because we chose to. Because we still choose to. We are either religious hypocrites or we walk in the spirit.

But God is definitely working. He has chosen His elected who are currently working non-stop, some on the frontline and some behind the scene.

Mark 13:20: “But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days… And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.”

We can’t always understand what we are shown. But we need to touch our hearts and others’ hearts in special places. We have already been completely atomized, and the only way forward is to become worthy of the true King in His absence and to prepare for His return.

But, this doesn’t mean that we should be inactive and sit back and allow it all to happen. What we allow continues. Anything positive that you can do in these unprecedented times, can help. I will leave you with Romans 12:9-21 which speaks of love in action:

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written:

‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord. On the contrary, ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.'”

As I woke up after falling asleep at the feet of the Lord, this is the message I bring to you.
