Enemalta, China’s Shanghai Electric Power, Diesel-run 60mw plant…generation or distribution problem?

On the 27th of July, the Maltese nation was informed that the €37 million diesel-run 60-megawatt plant, which is set to help prevent power outages, has landed at the Birzebbuga freeport.

“The €37 million diesel-run 60-megawatt plant is set to be fully operational by mid-August.

On Saturday morning, Enemalta said the new emergency generation plant was being unloaded at the Malta Freeport.

This generation plant will be used if one of our main generation sources are not available.

Enemalta said it will be leasing 60MW of additional generation capacity until the new second Malta-Sicily interconnector is commissioned.

‘We are constantly upgrading our electricity infrastructure to secure the provision of electricity.'”

You must love the comments that this news received:

[Hadn’t they told us that the temporary power station was privately owned and would be leased to the government? Now why is the media saying that it is owned by Enemalta? So is the other part of Enemalta that was bought by the Chinese and which is thus private, not involved? And for how long will the word ‘temporary’ remain? I’m smelling a big fuck up from the Invictus!]

[Wait! It was said that there is no issue with the supply. So, an extra power station should not make a difference…or are we trying to fool the public one way or another.]

[Also, when the second cable is put in, at the taxpayers’ expense, who is going to be managing it?]
