American senator Menendez was found guilty when he was faced again for the second time with another corruption trial

Do you remember the blog which dealt about the case of American senator Menendez? That he was no longer facing corruption charges and that the case was dropped?

Guess what! He was facing again for the second time another corruption trial, but this time it involved gold bars. Please read here. While in the first trial back in 2017 ended with a deadlocked jury, this time he was found guilty on all charges, including taking cash and gold bribes from three New Jersey businessmen and serving as an Egyptian government agent abroad.

According to the prosecution, the seventy-year-old Democrat abused his position to shield friends from criminal investigations and enrich associates, including his wife, by meeting with Egyptian intelligence officers and softening his stance toward Egypt while acceleration that nation’s access to millions of dollars in U.S. military aid.

There were also two co-defendants found guilty. Wael Hana and Fred Daibes, two businessmen from New Jersey, were charged with accepting bribes. Before the trial, Jose Uribe, a third businessman, entered a guilty plea and provided evidence against the other two.

When Menendez is found guilty on October 29, he could spend decades behind bars. On sixteen charges, he was found guilty.

“He and his lawyers vowed to appeal as they left the courthouse”.

“The trial’s outcome prompted a chorus of Democrats to call on Menendez to resign, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, New Jersey’s junior senator, Corey Booker, and the party’s nominee to replace Menendez, Rep. Andy Kim.”
