Enhancing Bureaucratic Red Tape and Animal Cruelty: The Animal Welfare fund is another lie told

This year, the government allocated an investment of €85,000 to “provide financial assistance to animal shelters or non-governmental organisations that care for animals.” This is known as the Animal Welfare Fund, which “is established with a commitment to support those organisations and shelters providing services to animals, with the aim of raising more awareness about the importance of domestic animals in our community and furthering animal rights in our country.” You can read more here.

This is the usual gibberish in the political fuzzy language while they pose in front of a usual set-up vertical pull-up political banner in their bullshit announcements:

Here is the truth and the full picture in a post by the Association for Abandoned Animals, which is also confirmed by Gozo SPCA.

The post reads: “Three days ago, it was published how there is going to be an animal welfare fund. We welcome such news, but only if it is true. AAA sanctuary has managed to get the animal welfare fund of 2021 just last week after months of emails, messages, and phone calls. Yesterday, we were included in other emails of other sanctuaries that are still trying to get the animal welfare of 2021! The permanent secretary, the parliament secretary and other people tell us that we are going to get them, but then the Director asks for more lists and certificates that is impossible to get after three years as we were never asked to apply for them or keep them three years ago. Certificates and lists that were never in the criteria of application!! Sometimes, it truly seems as if these things are being done on purpose so that NGOs can never work in peace. We are so fed up, but enough is enough. We will not be bullied.”

And here is another post by the same AAA which reads: “Another week has passed since our last post of the Animal Welfare Grants. AAA sanctuary has just managed to get the animal welfare grant of 2021 just last week after 7 months of arguments and three years later. Other sanctuaries STILL DID NOT GET THEM. We have asked around to see who is taking care of the grants. It is the same ‘manager’ who last year gave us so many problems over a dog we named Elsa (1st pic). Animal welfare confiscated Elsa and gave her to us, and then they wanted to take her again from us to give her back to her owner!! Elsa had such severe leishmania that her nose practically fell, and her owner was still breeding her as she is a border collie. Of course, we refused, but it was a battle of a month. Elsa is now happily homed, her nose grew back, and her leishmania is under control (2nd pic). Those are the people who are working in animal welfare. People who want to return abused dogs to their owners.”
