The double standards of the Labour government and Malta Public Transport vis-à-vis electric buses

While Environment Minister Miriam Dalli wants the green transport schemes to focus on fully electric vehicles and that government policy should focus on encouraging the purchase of electric cars, two days ago the local media reported that “a new fleet of diesel buses are taking to Malta’s roads to meet the increase in demand for public transport.”

I would expect the government to turn all its fleet of public buses into electric ones, considering the statements of Minister Miriam Dalli. After all, it should be the government that leads by example. But no! Compliance must come from the people. The push of the agenda applies only to the people.

You cannot make this sh*t up, not even if you try to figure it out.

But wait a minute. Here is how they go about justifying their decisions and actions.

“MPT Chairman Felipe Cosmen said the company was still committed to electric buses but decided to buy diesel buses to improve the bus network as soon as possible.” He said that MPT’s “decision to invest in diesel buses was driven by the urgency to meet the increase in demand for public transport.”

Lol. Tickle your belly. Those who are not at the bottom of the heap, unlike you, can allow some flexibility and go around those ‘necessities’ that are being forced on you, but for which, you do not have the same flexibility.

The chairman continued to say that their “experience with electric buses has been positive, but specialised infrastructure for electric vehicles still needs to be completed.”

Lol. Tickle your belly. The truth is that Malta is tagging along with the EU’s agendas using the same funds given by the same EU, without having the needed infrastructure to support electric vehicles. So, why was this accepted in the first place by the Labour government? And why is the agenda being pushed upon the people when this same issue apply to people too?

Finally, this site wants MPT to specify how the experience with electric buses was positive. As recent as last January, a fleet of electric buses were taken out of service “after one burst into flames in Wimbledon during the school-run.”

“Commuters were swiftly evacuated after a huge blast ripped off the back of an Optare Metrodecker 1050 bus travelling from Mitcham to Raynes Park in South West London at 7.20am on Friday, January 12.”

“As a result, Transport for London (TfL) have removed buses serving the 200 route as a ‘precaution’ while an investigation into the fire on Wimbledon Hill Road is carried out.”

This was reported in the Daily Mail.
