Ship owners are asked to safeguard their boats from electric car fires

Transporting electric cars for cargo is turning into a challenging and dangerous feat.

According to the IMO, exports of goods based on lithium ions increase safety hazards and provide a “huge problem” for shipping.

A regulatory official has warned that the increasing exports of battery-powered vehicles constitute a serious safety concern, which has spurred a rush to strengthen the protection of vessels following recent incidents on board ships transporting electric automobiles. The International Maritime Organization’s chief of safety, Heike Deggim, announced that member nations would develop new regulations for shipping companies that transport lithium-ion battery-powered vehicles in the spring of 2019.

They create their agendas and then they order companies to adjust and modify to suit their agendas. From one inconvenience caused, they keep on causing more inconveniences.
