Maltese educator Charlene Zammit Moore responds to the article of Illum & shows the reality of how Maltese teachers are disrespected

Here is what educator Charlene Zammit Moore, who runs the Facebook page ‘Charlene Zammit Moore, Respect Educators’ wrote vis-à-vis the article written by the media portal Illum. It is an excellent post which gives an all-round picture of how Maltese teachers have been and are still being disrespected.

‘An article this morning implies that educators will be given a huge pay rise for nothing; as if we are not already underpaid for our work, overburdened and already have additional work coming at us [I suggest you read the strategies of the ministry if you think differently].

We were told to always be grateful, even if this increase is only 1/3 of what the MUT asked for…. only 1/3!!! After election promises of a SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE!! After no increase in the last year of the last agreement; after they were forced to wait for a year and a half for a new agreement without any pay rise; after the loss of one day’s pay for the strike.
If educators accept peanuts, they will always be treated like monkeys. Are you monkeys, my colleague monkeys? Do you want to keep watching others get great deals while you are given the scraps?⁉️
They are also telling us not to wait any longer because private schools are no longer affordable for a small number of middle-class families. No one should be denied FAIR PAY because they cause inconvenience to others. Especially in this case when the government can help with subsidies and tax credits.’
