Catholic Archbishop Vigano, a former Vatican ambassador to the United States, has also accused Pope Francis of heresy for promoting the “legitimization of homosexuality.”
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano is well-known for his views about homosexuality and has previously called for Pope Francis to resign. This was back in 2018, when Vigano called for Pope Francis to resign after his failure to act on the then-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s decades-old allegation of sexual abuse of a teenage altar boy. Cardinal Vigano stated that he had informed Pope Francis back in 2013 on the grounds that he had tolerated a known sexual abuser, doing nothing about it. He had told Pope Francis that McCarrick had “corrupted generations of seminarians and priests.” He had stated: “Pope Francis must be the first to set a good example to cardinals and bishops who covered up McCarrick’s abuses and resign along with all of them.”
Please note that Cardinal Vigano went into hiding and is in an undisclosed location. When the Washington Post had published the bombshell letter that Vigano had sent to it, calling on Pope Francis to resign on such grounds, Viganò turned off his phone, told friends he was disappearing and let the church sort through the fallout. Nine months later, Vigano had a first extended interview but refused to disclose his location or say anything about his self-imposed exile.
Yet, “even in hiding, he is maintaining his role as the fiercest critic of the Francis era, acting either as an honorable rebel”.
Fast forward to 2020, and in a recent interview with Italian journalist and Vatican expert Marco Tosatti, Vigano insisted that Pope Francis, whom he refers to as Jorge Bergoglio, is involved in a plot to “corrupt” the church by promoting homosexuality.
Vigano said:
“For Bergoglio and his entourage sodomy is not a sin that cries out for vengeance in the presence of God, as the Catechism teaches. Bergoglio’s words on this topic – and even more the actions and words of those who surround him – unfortunately confirm that an operation of legitimization of homosexuality is currently underway.”
He later added:
“Let’s not forget that the legitimization of homosexuality is part of the agenda of the New World Order – to which the Bergoglian church adheres openly and unconditionally. Not only for its destabilizing value in the social body, but also because sodomy is the principal instrument with which the Enemy intends to destroy the Catholic priesthood, corrupting the souls of the Ministers of God.”
Vigano claims that Theodore McCarrick, a former cardinal defrocked by the Vatican after sex crimes allegations surfaced publicly, was involved in secretly brokering an agreement with the Chinese government to encourage persecution of Chinese Christians.
He insisted that a ‘deep church’ has secretly collaborated with McCarrick and others he claims are part of a “gay lobby” that promotes both homosexuality and pedophilia, which he maintained are linked.
Vigano said “These three elements – heresy, sodomy, and corruption – are so recurrent that they are almost a trademark of the deep state and of the deep church.”
