The front page article of the Times of 19 November 2019 stated that Fenech claims Schembri is Daphne (sic) murder Mastermind. Among others in this article one reads that:
“Yorgen Fenech has named Keith Schembri as the mastermind behind the plot to kill journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia according to multiple sources but investigators are treating his claims with caution.
Businessman Mr Fenech who has been answering police questions since he was apprehended trying to flee the island last Wednesday has told investigators that Mr Schembri was the man who commissioned the October 2017 murder.
Investigators are now treating Mr Schembri as a ‘person of interest’ in the case but sources said that the police had reason to be apprehensive about everything Mr Fenech is telling them.
Sources said Mr Fenech had provided interrogators with some unreliable information prior to making the claims about Mr Schembri. They also fear Mr Fenech is making the claims in a bid to secure leniency from prosecution for his own alleged role in the crime.”
What should be stated is why investigators always treat claims of Keith Schembri’s involvement in this murder with caution.
A few days ago the Degiorgios brothers wrote that after they had passed on sensitive information to the police concerning several cases the police took no action perhaps on instructions of certain influential people. This is what the Degiorgio brothers wrote:
“We start with the case of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The facts concerning this case are not as they are being presented or projected by the investigating officers and politicians. We personally know this.”
Doesn’t this explain why investigators treated Yorgen Fenech’s claims cautiously? The Degiorgios also wrote: “We believe that there is a plot to exculpate the true criminal who ordered the crime.” Does not the above information by The Times show us how the plot was interwoven? What is of utmost importance is that the Degiorgios wrote:
“In Daphne Caruana Galizia’s there was also a former Commissioner of Police involved as well as police officers in high posts and to this one must add also the involvement of lawyers and persons of trust.”
Didn’t the Times of Malta above write that: “Investigators are now treating Mr Schembri as a ‘person of interest’ in the case but sources said that the police had reason to be apprehensive about everything Mr Fenech is telling them.“
Is Keith Schembri the common factor here as the ‘person of interest’ or ‘person of trust’? The last part of the sentence reads that “the police had reason to be apprehensive about everything Mr Fenech told them.” Didn’t the Degiorgios write that police officers in high posts together with the Commissioner of Police were protecting the real culprits of Daphne’s murder? The Degiorgio brothers are now explaining why the investigating offers did not take Yorgen Fenech’s statements seriously. So what should our journalists investigate at this stage is whether the police force and the investigating offers are compromised in this case.
Finally all the above shows that the media’s reporting about Yorgen Fenech was twisted. This is done to give the public warped information about this nefarious plot to exculpate the criminals who ordered this crime. Now the general public can understand why the Caruana Galizia family stated that the Degiorgio brothers should not be believed.
Last but not least the readers should know that The Times even changed the heading of its article carrying Yorgen Fenech’s claim that Keith Schembri is the mastermind behind this murder. I took the above information from the Times of Malta portal. The article’s title differed from the one on the printed media and now reads “Yorgen Fenech pins Daphne murder on Keith Schembri.” This is dated 27th November 2019. Can the Times of Malta explain to the readers why it decided to change the article’s title and what happened to the article published in the printed media on 19th November 2019? Unfortunately this title is no longer on the Times’ website. It was changed with the other title which is less incisive and robust concerning Keith Schembri. One needs to remember that The Times is indebted to Keith Schembri. From this point onwards The Times journalists started selling the story that Yorgen Fenech was the mastermind of this murder.
